The sun was slowly descending from the bright blue sky as he almost immediately left the lecture room, feeling quite exhausted. He needed to smoke a cigarette, perhaps have some quality alone time and then head back to the house, roll a joint, quite possibly lay down feeling so completely at peace – as if he was dying at the age of one hundred. As he walked along the path towards the small lake in the campus park, he quickly got carried away by the flow of his own thoughts; it felt as if he was thinking of nothing in particular, still there was a thousand ideas flowing through his mind in a second, short flashes that were never meant to stick, perhaps they were simply designed by his brain to calm him down a bit. He could feel his grip slipping time and time again in these lectures; he couldn't keep his focus if his life depended on it and it seemed as if Withmore wasn't the type of institution that would let one pass easily, simply because his parents were at the right positions. Which kind of bugged him; he knew he'd need a lot of studying to pass this year and he wasn't all that sure he wanted that. He had fun, that he did, but at the same time school was the furthest from his mind. His family had enough money to control falf of Europe, why in god's name would he need an education? He completely subconsciously stopped at the statue of venus, his hands behind his back, quite elegantly gazing at a beautiful redhead nearby. She seemed quite thrown away by her own thoughts, he doubted she realized his presence until he walked up to her and stopped just a few steps away, determined that this work of god's beauty is going to be his next subject. »Hello,« he started off with an extremely soft tone, as if he felt that neccessary to not, well, scare her off her feet when she'd realize he was trying to make conversation.

the sky was slowly getting darker, while she was standing beside the statue of venus, staring somewhere in distance. her spirit wasn't there – it was floating above the fields of her thoughts in an unknown, made-up world, built with unintelligible, swarming lines. she was free, or at least as free as a human being can be, which wasn't nearly enough for her voracious soul. but it was sort of fine, because the outside world shut out, eliminating unnecessary sounds and people who annoyed her (basically everyone). the thousands of dimensions that imagination was offering were her favorite place for many reasons. one of them was because she could see linda there. it was nothing like having her besides you, solid and real, but it was the nearest she'll ever get. she knew that the moment linda jumped, and maybe it kept her from going insane through all of these years. that she didn't lose her entirely, that it was only her human body that was gone. her soul has always been somewhere near, to keep her quiet, comforting company. and maybe that's why she hated associating with other people – they could chase linda away. just like they chased her thoughts away with a soft but unwanted hello. she snapped out and blinked a few times, turning a bit to see a boy standing nearby. she didn't know him, which wasn surprising for she hardly knew anyone. »hello.« it was just as soft, but it lacked the warmth – she was made of cold, therefore her words couldn't contain anything else. he chose an unfortunate time for bugging her, when it was clear that she's been happily caught up in her thoughts until they were forcibly finished. she felt no anger or rage, just irritation; because so far, he hasn't done any tremendously wrong move (except for talking to her, but she had no right to judge him for that). she's gonna see through him soon anyway.

There was something about the redhead, a sort of detachment, a sort of cold in her eyes that he hadn't seen on this island yet, that he hadn't seen – possibly – ever. Not at a girl of his own age, that was for sure. She was beautiful, but in a very sad, cold way. Her heart possibly made of ice. She seemed a work of fiction, really, a mythological creature, the kind that would quite possibly rip out your heart in such a cruel and unexpected way you'd end up.. begging for more. Thankfully he wasn't the kind that would ever let that happen; he was a work of fiction as well. »I'm sorry to disturb you,« he proceeded in the same soft, almost meek tone, something that wasn't quite what anyone who knew him would expect from him; then again, he was fresh meat, nobody knew his true colors. Some shades, perhaps, never the whole picture. »I – I was just..« He kicked it off with a sense of general confusion. »I feel as if I might have seen you before.« In another life, perhaps. He wasn't even sure himself if what he was saying was true or not, but he sounded as convincing as it gets. Perhaps because he really did feel like he might have seen her. Not here, not on the island where you passed a bunch of the same spoiled rich kids every day, not here. »I'm.. I'm Nico Thoman,« he took the additional step, stretching out his hand in order to complete the formal introduciton. He wanted to know more of her, there was something magical in her eyes. The expectation was visible in his eyes as well, he didn't even try to hide it. She had that little something, she deserved to understand that others saw it in her as well. At this point.. at this point, quite truly, he had no other intention than simply getting to know her. She was now one of the few people, possibly on the planet, with which he, as of yet, had no hidden agenda. He just wanted to.. see what was beneath the surface.

the guy in front of her appeared to be lost in his own thoughts, just for a moment, for a blink of an eye. and there was something on his face, some sort of unobtrusive, soft curiosity that surprised her in a certain way; she wasn't used to it, being either harassed or ignored most of the time. he definitely piqued her interest, although she distanced herself as quickly as possible - there was no way she would ever allow any kind of attachment. not that it was likely possible, it was just a prevention. her eyebrows raised, like so many times before, in that are-you-serious way when he apologized for disturbing. »don't you think it's a bit too late for that? apologizing for something you can't restore won't fix it,« she said quietly, her gaze slowly locking with his. he possessed a different, unusual kind of beauty hidden in his features, unlike the majority of withmore's students who seemed to be nothing but copies of each other. she didn't quite know if a slight confusion in his voice was confirming her thoughts or on the contrary, denying them - she couldn't understand. »i'm pretty sure you haven't... i'm invisible, after all.« most of the time. she was expecting a remark, maybe a joke or something; he couldn't know how very suitable it was for cecilia. and he couldn't know how much she hated names, because to know someone's name was some sort of obligation. she accepted his hand anyway, and muttered another, barely audible hello, but purposely withheld her own name. nothing but courtesy dictated her to introduce, and she strongly believed rarely anyone cared about that. she let his hand slip away as quickly as she could and her eyes broke off the contact right after, staring at the same point somewhere in the distance as before she's been interrupted. »you don't want to bother with me, nico,« she said absent-mindedly, crossing her arms over her chest. »i'm better off alone.«

He raised an eyebrow, stood silent for a moment or so, then he nodded with sudden determination in his voice, as he said, »You're right. In that case I guess I'm not really sorry.« He smiled softly, shrugging his shoulders. No, he wasn't sorry, not really, he just used that fraze way too often; he was never sorry, he never thought that he had anything to be sorry about. Not him, not ever – his life wasn't about regret, it was about pushing forward, always pushing forward. »I don't think that's true,« he gently rejected her, trying hard to not sound like an ass, as it was what he was used to. Saying what he thought, sounding hurtful in the process, even if the cause wasn't quite so destructive. »Woah, do you really feel that way?« His eyebrows raised again, he had never quite met anyone so completely cold-hartedly damaged before. It was almost delicious to watch her, she was better than tv, better than imagination itself, she had a certain something he had never stumbled upon before – and it made him want to stay just a tad stronger than before. »Does my presence displease you?« he asked in a demanding tone, as if she owed hi man explanation. He knew she owed him nothing; yet he somehow wanted to at least understand, to have a glimpse into the complicated inside of this.. completely unknown redhead that amazed him without even giving him one single look, with nothing but words to send him as far away as possible. »At least tell me your name, then..«
